5 Superfoods For Improving Your Eye Health

Poor, impaired or blurry vision is frustrating, and our eyes only seem to get worse as we get older. There’s no need to feel completely hopeless, though. There are plenty of great ways to improve your eyesight naturally at home, starting with a healthy diet. Try eating more of these five superfoods to help with eyesight improvement. Eye health foods are delicious and good for you.

1. Carrots

Most people know that carrots are a great food to munch on for improving eyesight. But, do you know why? Carrots have something called beta-carotene, a pigment that converts into Vitamin A which helps keep those pretty eyes healthy and happy. With increasing age, try to sneak more carrots into your diet to protect your vision.

2. Spinach

We’d like to think that Popeye wasn’t only eating spinach to get big and strong, but to protect his vision too! Vitamin A is tremendously beneficial to eye health, and spinach is just loaded with it. Spinach also has lutein and zeaxanthin. These pigments are very effective antioxidants that are proven to slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration. Simply put, if you want to improve your eyesight, start eating spinach!

3. Blueberries

There are plenty of fruits and vegetables that promote eye health and protect vision, and blueberries are one of the best options. These tasty little berries fortify the blood vessels of the eyes and prevent blocked up arteries which provide oxygen to the retina. So, if you’re looking for tasty eye health foods to improve eyesight naturally, we definitely recommend snacking on blueberries often.

4. Salmon

The benefits of eating salmon make for a long list. From decreasing the risk of heart disease to having a positive impact on depression, Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon are essential, especially where eye care is concerned.  Omega-3 lowers the risk of developing AMD, encourages better visual development in children, and lubricates the eyeballs. If you’re not a huge salmon fan, other cold water fish like tuna, mackerel, and sardines also contain omega-3.

5. Broccoli

When you were a kid, your mom always told you to eat your broccoli, and she was certainly on to something. Broccoli contains vitamin B2, a powerful vitamin for improving eyesight and preventing eye problems like cataracts. If you’re deficient in vitamin B2, your eyes could become more sensitive to light, contributing to all sorts of other issues like eye inflammation and blurred vision. Similar to spinach, broccoli also has lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin A, all essential properties for healthier eyesight.

While these five superfoods are wonderful for eye health, you shouldn’t stop there. Try eating more strawberries, sweet potatoes, avocados, walnuts, peppers, eggs, and oranges to help keep your eyesight protected.
