Dr. Danny Walker completed both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 2012. He was voted by his fellow classmates to receive the Dr. Michael Gutwein Memorial Award in his final year of Optometry school, awarded to the most social and involved student in the class.

Upon graduation, he moved to Corner Brook, Newfoundland for three years, where he had the opportunity to practice full-scope Optometry in a variety of rural locations.

Dr. Walker has been practicing Optometry in the Okanagan since 2015. He completed his fellowship with the Ocular Wellness and Nutrition Society in 2021. He authored “Nutritional Considerations in the Optometric Management of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury”, which was published in the journal Vision Development & Rehabilitation the same year.

He obtained his fellowship with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development in 2023. Dr. Walker is passionate about optimizing visual function beyond 20/20 and equipping his patients with the nutrition and lifestyle habits that can reduce their risk of eye disease and vision loss throughout life.

Dr. Sean Laycock, Optometrist

Raised in South Surrey, BC, Dr Sean Laycock is a dedicated optometrist skilled in diagnosing and treating complex eye conditions. His practice combines cutting-edge technology with compassionate care, caters to a diverse patient base, and keeps his skills sharp and up-to-date.

Dr Laycock earned his Bachelor of Science from UBC, where he also worked for the Eye Bank of BC, assisting with the corneal transplantation program. With profound appreciation, he completed this Doctorate of Optometry from Indiana University, and treasures the invaluable mentorship and rigorous training he received. His love of eye care and travel has led him to remote corners of Central America, where he helped provide vital eye care services in rural communities.

At the heart of his practice is a deep respect for the stories and life journeys each patient brings into the exam room. He aims to create a space where people feel genuinely seen and heard. These visits are not just about eyesight, but about perspective, presence, and how we move through our daily lives. And if we can share a laugh between eye drops, even better!

Eye Exams & Vision Wellness

Inspired Eyes Optometry is a full scope eye care clinic located in the heart of downtown Kelowna. Our patients appreciate that we take the time to listen to their individual concerns, answer their questions and teach them about their eye health and reducing the risk of eye disease.

Recommended Eye Exam Frequency

CHILDREN

To ensure optimal eye health and development it is important for your child to have their eyes examined. Even before your child can walk or talk, optometrists can evaluate the development of their eye movements (detecting “lazy eye”), eye health, and even their developing eye prescription (farsightedness, astigmatism, etc). Examinations are recommended as young as 6 months, before starting kindergarten, and annually through the school years.

ADULTS AGED 19 TO 64

Adults should have an eye exam at least every two years, or more frequently if recommended, especially when managing other health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Routine exams help detect changes in vision and early signs of eye disease. Common concerns in this age group include blurry vision or difficulty focusing up close, dry eyes, and digital eye strain—also known as Computer Vision Syndrome—caused by prolonged screen time.

SENIORS AGED 65+

For seniors, the risk of developing eye conditions rises significantly with age. We carefully monitor for cataracts and other serious vision threats like diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Detecting these conditions early and managing them properly is key to preserving long-term eye health. We strongly recommend an annual comprehensive eye exam, which includes dilation and advanced retinal imaging for a complete and thorough assessment of your eyes.

What is a Vision Wellness Assessment?

A Vision Wellness Assessment at Inspired Eyes Optometry is more than just an eye exam. It is a comprehensive assessment of your current vision and eye health. It is also an interactive opportunity to learn how you can protect your vision now and in the future, with advanced tools to monitor your eye health and  recommendations for scientifically proven nutritional support for your eyes. You’ll receive a personalized assessment, unique to your visual needs and eye health.

The Optos Monaco is the premium imaging systems for eye care, and Inspired Eyes is one only a handful of offices that has this advance level of technology. It combines multiple technologies into one machine, which makes testing easier for you and significantly enhances our ability to detect and manage eye diseases early and accurately. Ultra-Wide Field retinal imaging captures approximately 80 % of the retina without the use of dilating eye drops (versus about 30 % with standard cameras) —think of it as “Google Maps” for the inside of your eyes.

OCT is a quick, non-invasive imaging technology that gives our doctors an ultra-high-resolution, cross-sectional “layer-by-layer” view of the retina and optic nerve—which reveals the details of the image, much like dropping into Google Street View after looking at the map. In just seconds, the scanner captures detailed 3-D images of each retinal layer, revealing microscopic changes that can’t be seen with traditional photography or even through the microscope.

The Macular Pigment (Retinal Antioxidant) Testing measures how well the protective levels of the nutrients lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin are functioning in your central retina. These nutritents support the production of macular pigment, and higher macular pigment is linked to reduced risk of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), better glare tolerance, improved contrast sensitivity, safer night driving, and greater protection from blue-light damage. If your levels are low, we can recommend supplements and dietary recommendations to boost your macular health.

We measure intra-ocular pressure with a gentle, “no-puff” tonometer, then combine the result with optic-nerve scans and visual-field testing to screen for glaucoma.  Early detection lets us start sight-saving treatment long before you would ever have noticed any vision changes caused by glaucoma.

Dry Eye Disease (DED) rates are increasing in all age groups due to  factors of our modern lifestyle, such as environmental changes, nutritional quality, and digital habits. If you are noticing that your eyes often feel irritated, or ironically that they water excessively, you may have dry eye. We assess, diagnose and create a treatment plan for those suffering with symptoms of dry eye.

Post-concussion vision screenings evaluate how a head injury may have affected your eye movements, focusing, and overall visual processing by running quick static (fixation) and dynamic (saccades, pursuits) tests; the results reveal exactly where your visual system is struggling so we can design targeted therapy and rehabilitation exercises to speed recovery and restore comfortable, efficient vision.

We measure how well your eyes work together at distance and near, looking for subtle mis-alignments that cause fatigue, headaches, double vision, or reading difficulties. Results guide treatment such as prism lenses or vision therapy.

Routine vision care includes a precise refraction to find your most comfortable prescription, then we tailor eyeglass or contact-lens options to your lifestyle. If  you’d prefer  to live lens-free, we’ll assess your candidacy for LASIK and other refractive procedures, arrange referrals to trusted surgeons, and provide seamless co-management before and after surgery to protect your eyes and maximize your visual results.

Because nutrition is a powerful driver of both ocular and overall wellness, we offer personalized, evidence-based guidance on diet, targeted supplements, and lifestyle tweaks that sharpen visual performance and help prevent—or slow—the progression of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, dry eye, and diabetic eye disease.

Optometry Services

Optos Monaco

The Optos Monaco combines two highly advanced technologies that allows us to view the retinas at the back of your eyes extremely thoroughly – often without the need for dilating drops!

Ultra-wide field images provide a full view of your retinas for enhanced monitoring of peripheral problems (retinal holes, tears, bleeding, etc), while the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology provides an in-depth scan of your central vision (called the “macula”) and optic nerve.

We review the images with each patient during their Vision Wellness Assessment so you can see how healthy the back of your eyes are in detail!

MP Eye – Macular Pigment Testing

Inspired Eyes Optometry is one of the few practices offering macular pigment testing. The MP Eye is an essential part of our Vision Wellness Assessments, as it evaluates your level of natural defences against long-term exposure to violet-blue light and oxidative damage. If antioxidant levels in your rentinas are low your central vision may be more at risk of poor visual quality such as reduced contrast sensitivity and difficultry recovering from bright lights. It can also indicate an increased risk for age-related eye disease leading to vision loss. Identifying this as early as possible allows us to help increase your antioxidant levels over time via our Macular Nutrition Program.

Genetic Testing & Nutraceuticals for AMD

At Inspired Eyes Optometry, we believe that patients suffering from Macular Degeneration should be on the best possible nutraceutical supplement to reduce their risk of progression and vision loss. By default, most patients with AMD are prescribed vitamins based on the 2001 (AREDS 1) and/or 2012 (AREDS 2) studies. However, more recent analysis of that data has shown that approximately half of people could benefit more from a different vitamin formulation. This is why we offer genetic testing to determine the optimal nutraceutical formulation for our patients with macular degeneration.
